The Sacrifice of the Dream Keeper: Iahja Falls at Penuria as Keori Ascends to Guardianship
In a
staggering turn of events that has fundamentally reshaped the spiritual
landscape of the world of Izar, the Great One, Iahja the Dream Keeper, has
fallen in battle within the Marauder's citadel. This ultimate sacrifice
occurred during a climactic spiritual confrontation intended to save the life
of the "Borned-One," Keori of Tulipa, during the final liberation of
the city-state of Penuria.
For the
duration of the campaign, the world’s most powerful guardian moved among the
alliance troops and citizens under the humble disguise of a bumbling, often
underestimated marmot named Pearl. Iahja revealed her true identity shortly
before the final assault, shedding the form of the fat, hairy creature to take
her place as a thin woman with gray hair of great dignity and power. This
revelation shocked the Tribunal of humans, elves, and dwarves, many of whom had
previously dismissed the marmouse as a mere nuisance or a fool.
The final
battle took place within the Marauder’s inner sanctum, a room dominated by
three black ebony thrones circling a smooth obsidian slab that covered a dark pit.
Alliance leaders discovered that the Marauder had captured Keori in a powerful
trance, forcing him to sit like a statue upon one of the thrones while a red
glow streamed from his eye sockets.
As the Elite
Chasm Guard Captain Karstacion and the dwarf warrior Fargo fought to break
through the physical and magical barriers surrounding the prisoner, Iahja
engaged the death lord in a multidimensional struggle. The sanctum was
transformed into a landscape of extremes, fluctuating between searing flames
and a churning, icy sea. In the midst of this spiritual warfare, Iahja
navigated through mazes of nothingness and false visions created by the
Marauder to claim her power.
In the final
moments of the conflict, as the sea split and a tidal wave of evil threatened
to engulf the room, Iahja realized the cost of victory. Reaching out to the
young dwarfson, she implored, "Keori! Take it! Take it!" In an act of
unparalleled heroism, Iahja traded her life for Keori’s, transferring her
essence to protect him as she spun out of sight into the blackness of the void.
The room began to groan and shake, and the entire building crumbled with a
great roar shortly after the survivors fled the ruins.
While the
Marauder's immediate power was broken, his ultimate fate remains unconfirmed.
However, the mantle of protection has not been lost. Before her departure,
Iahja passed her ancient wooden staff to Keori. To the astonishment of those
present, the staff transformed into a finely hewn steel sword, signaling the
official transfer of guardianship. Karstacion, a lesser "Borned-One"
herself, recognized the magnitude of this artifact: "You have been given
the staff, the passage into another dimension. You are a Dream Keeper!"
Keori, who
began this journey as a quiet dwarfson plagued by nightmares in the Irenic
Isles, now accepts the burden of the world’s spiritual defense. Despite the
profound grief felt by the alliance, particularly by Karstacion, who viewed
Iahja as a mentor and dear friend, the ascension of a new Dream Keeper provides
a beacon of hope.
The new
Guardian has announced that his journey is only beginning. Recognizing a deep,
internal linkage between himself and the Marauder, Keori has stated that the
permanent solution to this ancient evil must be found within. Keori has
departed Penuria for Mt. Ternary, where he intends to probe his inner self and
fully embrace the power of the Dream Keeper.
The combined
armies of King Sabio, King Rauta, and King Sartan remain in Penuria to secure
the city and address the remaining legions of trolls and ogres, but they do
know that the spiritual seat of the world.
